Saturday morning, I had the opportunity to retest my FTP. It is no surprise to me that after about 1 ½ months off from consistent riding, my FTP dropped 6 watts. While it is a bummer, it was expected.
Nutrition Leading to the Test
Breakfast – Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread (a treat curiously of my Mom), Eggs with spinach, cheese and avocado along with a small homemade fruit smoothie
- This Breakfast was different than I normally eat on an FTP test day but I don’t feel it had any negative impact on my results.
- Pre-Test and During – SIS gel and Tailwind (2 scoops) in water
My nutrition was a bit different than normal, but I do not think it had a negative impact on my results. Mentally I went into the test excited and strong, so I feel it is an adequate test result. Where do I go from here? My plan is to start the Sweet Spot Base plan on TrainerRoad. It is a 6 week, low volume plan. If my current FTP feels too easy during the workouts, I can always increase the intensity. After 6 weeks, I will retest as recommended and let you know the results. Stay tuned for the next results!
